“Orgasm: a pleasurable wave of tingling sensations through parts or throughout the body.  Hmmmmmm, sounds nice, right? Debra Pascali-Bonaro’s film, Orgasmic Birth, has a timely presence at a critical mass juncture in the world of birth. Talking heads dialogue, reveals shocking and alarming statistics about the fear-based approach to birth in the United States and beyond. Pascali-Bonaro’s collection of emotionally evocative images of labor/birth gifts the audience with poignant, powerful, portrayals of blissful, exhilarating, footage of women who believe in the power of their bodies, connections with their babies and trust in the process of labor and birth. Kris Liem, the editor of Orgasmic Birth, weaves Pascali-Bonaro’s courageous message with a brilliant sensitivity and optimally delivers her message. This is a film to see, to present, to talk about. It’s an important, ‘next step,’ because it gives women, babies and their partners, ‘permission’ to express what has been taboo for too long. As Ina May Gaskin has been quoted so many times, ‘the hormones that got the baby their in the first place are the same hormones to get the baby out.’”
Judith Elaine Halek, Director of Birth Balance
