“What a beautiful film! Orgasmic Birth shows a different view of childbirth from the mainstream fear-based view. This film shows us what is possible in birth, reminds us that birth is a normal, sexual, sensuous, process that is filled with meaning and power. The elements of trust, love, nurturing, privacy, spontaneity, freedom, and acceptance, when present during birth, allow women to give themselves over to the satisfaction and ecstasy and sexual joy that are possible. It is wonderful to have this film that illustrates this message so beautifully.”

In my workshops, I talk about one of my favorite subjects, how to have a Pleasurable Birth. We listen to the sounds of a woman in labor. This always brings smiles, giggles and moments of intimacy with ourselves and our sexuality as births sounds much like good sex. We talk about sexuality and survivors of sexual abuse, as for many of us our sexuality has not always been all we desired and for many it includes trauma. Birth is an opportunity for healing and sadly, for too many women around the world, it is a time that they once again feel victimized.
Every woman deserves respect, dignity and to birth in a way that preserves and protects her beliefs and values. How has it been that sex and birth have been separated? How has women’s sexuality been repressed in many ways throughout the ages?
How can birth take place in our sexual organs and yet we don’t want to discuss sexuality? If a man were told something would be going on in his penis for 4 – 48 hours but it had nothing to do with sex, would he really believe it and agree?
Many questions to discuss and consider. Yet, to me this is an essential aspect of preparing for childbirth. Recently I enjoyed reading about Pleasurable Birth in the Press and look forward to the discussions that will come out of these publications and links. Here I will share with you:
Beyonce speaks about Sensuality & Birth "When I gave birth, that was the first time I truly let go and surrendered. And it taught me how amazing that feels," the "Crazy in Love" singer tells GQ. "Giving birth made me realize the power of being a woman. I have so much more substance in my life. And expressing that excitement and that sensuality and the connection I have with my husband — I'm a lot more comfortable with that now. I actually feel like my child introduced me to myself."
"Oh baby, yes!" Ina May, & Sarah Buckley MD, & I were honored to be interviewed by Pregnancy & Newborn Magazine for their great article about ecstatic birth.
"Ultimately, that’s what orgasmic birth really means: not just a great feeling, but a great sense of empowerment."
