When we talk about pain in birth, many imagine it as something to suffer through or avoid. But what if the key to managing sensation lies in pleasure instead?
In a recent episode of Orgasmic Birth: The Podcast, Thabata Devecchi, a Brazilian prenatal educator and doula, shares how integrating pleasure into her pregnancy and home birth changed everything.
“I realized I needed to reframe birth,” she explains. “I started practicing breath, movement, and connection with my body. When labor got intense, I reached for my vibrator — and suddenly, the contractions softened. They never peaked again.”
Thabata describes the tool as her own “natural epidural,” bridging modern understanding with ancient body wisdom. Her story highlights how safety, trust, and oxytocin — the hormone of love — can completely change the experience of giving birth.
Debra and Thabata go deeper, exploring how sexuality, embodiment, and intuition can support a more grounded and empowered pregnancy. It’s not about perfection or adding more to a to-do list, Thabata says, but about finding micro-moments of connection — pausing to breathe, touch your belly, or savor a small joy each day.
“We birth the way we live,” Thabata reminds us. “If we spend pregnancy disconnected and anxious, it’s hard to flow in birth. But if we learn to listen to our bodies, trust our intuition, and find pleasure in small moments — that changes everything.”
