The Big Push for Midwives Campaign

The Big Push for Midwives Campaign Orgasmic Birth will provide viewers with an understanding of all that is possible in giving birth for women, babies and families.  I hope that as people understand what is available to them during childbirth, we will create a strong voice to advocate for optimal models of MotherBaby care.    Women and their partners deserve the right to choose where and with whom they give birth.  Many countries have created policy statements that support the rights of women to give birth in a hospital, birth center or at home using a midwifery model of care. Data is strong on the  safety and many benefits of  midwifery care for low risk women.   It’s hard to believe in 2008 American women and their families need to fight for these rights.   Please join midwives, birth activist and others in the US for the The Big Push for Midwives Campaign to alert American families and state policy makers of the critical need for the regulation and licensure of Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) in all 50 states, D.C. and  Puerto Rico.   In its resolution, “Increasing Access to Out-of-Hospital Maternity Care Services Through State-Regulated and Nationally Certified Direct-Entry Midwives,” the AMERICAN PUBLIC HEALTH ASSOCIATION (APHA) concludes that healthy mothers experiencing normal pregnancies can safely deliver in various settings, including out-of-hospital birth centers and homes.   The Midwives Model of Care is based on the fact that pregnancy and birth are normal life processes. The Midwives Model of Care:   1.  Monitors the physical, psychological, and social well-being of the mother throughout the childbearing cycle   2.  Provides the mother with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support   3.  Minimizes technological interventions   4.  Identifies and refers women who require obstetrical attention   The application of this woman-centered model of care has been proven to reduce the incidence of birth injury, trauma, and cesarean section.   Please visit The Big Push website to learn more and to get involved in ensuring all women the right to a midwife.
