The Miracle of Birth: Uniting Ancient Wisdom and Modern Science            I would like to share with everyone an exciting opportunity that I will be participating in at the end of the month, and hope that those of you with a passion and interest in childbirth will join me!             On April 27th I will be attending The XIV International Congress of the Association of Pre-and Perinatal Psychology, The Miracle of Birth: Uniting Ancient Wisdom and Modern Science in Pacific Grove, CA, where I am presenting and afternoon workshop on The Role of Film in Social Change with renowned author and filmmaker, Suzanne Arms.  I am looking forward to sharing with all of you my inspiration for the creation of Orgasmic Birth, and tell the story of my journey with film.  We believe that film and certainly the use of media as a whole has become a catalyst for social change in our modernized, technology-based country today.  Films have the ability to touch hearts, evoke emotions, and spark our imaginations in a unique way that facts, statistics and common arguments do not.  We need to continue on this trail of incorporating the media to spread the knowledge of birth.  Along with this conference and workshop, we will present a screening of Orgasmic Birth and afterwards, spend time discussing with you all, the viewers, different models of childbirth care and how each one has, or can in the future, influence change in the public’s view, personal opinion, and even social policies.  It is always a special time for me when I am able to sit with you all and hear your feedback on the film, and especially your ideas of the future of birth and ways that we can influence this and work together.  I look forward to traveling to sunny Pacific Grove and spending time working to better maternity care and think of new ways that the media can support that goal.  We would love it if doulas and childbirth educators in the area would help us to promote this event so that we can share this special gathering with many.  If you are interested in registering, visit http://www.birthpsychology.com/congress/2009/ I look forward to seeing you there!
